About the Event
Keith is a native of Alvin who now calls West Columbia home. He is the oldest son of music-loving blue-collar parents. Keith started singing in his hometown Baptist church. However a chance encounter with another singer at the local opry house gave Smith the inspiration to try his own hand at country music. After his first performance Smith knew he’d found his passion. He quickly became a fixture on the Houston area music circuit performing first as a soloist, then as the lead singer for a local honky-tonk band, and finally with his own group. Eventually, after making a name for himself as one of Houston’s premier entertainers a career opportunity in Tennessee had Smith pulling up stakes and heading to Nashville. On Music Row he began establishing himself as a songwriter and session singer while continuing to perform live on Nashville’s famous Lower Broadway. Unfortunately, Keith found his time as a staff songwriter productive but frustrating, and quickly became disillusioned with the politics, the fear, and the inertia on Music Row. Like so many fabled Texas artists before him Smith packed up his family, bade Nashville a not-so-fond farewell, and headed back to the Lone Star State. These days Keith Smith says he’s thankful for his time in Tennessee, if for no other reason than it made him appreciate all things Texas! As a writer, singer, and entertainer he’s come full circle, and he’ll be the first to tell you there’s no place like home! Come out and Honky Tonk with this talented Texas musician! This guy is definitely a local favorite!
