About the Event
The Allman Brothers Band was one of the greatest and most influential rock bands of all time. With their blend of rock, blues, jazz, and country their versatility and musicianship has been unmatched. A rock and roll band playing the blues, from a jazz perspective. Many other southern rock bands such as Charlie Daniels, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, 38 Special et al came along. While very successful and great bands in their own right, no one equaled the Allman Brothers Band.
In the late ‘60s to early ‘70s the Fillmore East in New York was the premier rock concert venue in the US with shows put on by promoter Bill Graham. In a time when such acts as Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Jefferson Airplane, CSNY, and Led Zeppelin played there, the Allman Brothers were once called “Bill Graham’s house band” because they played there so often. He thought they were the greatest of all. George Kimball of Rolling Stone magazine hailed them as “the best damn rock and roll band this country has produced in 5 years”. The current lineup completed the bands 45 year run with their final shows in Oct 2014 at New York’s Beacon Theatre. Schroomville - A Tribute to The Allman Brothers Band was formed to play the tunes of this great band and create a concert experience based on one of our favorite bands. From the early days with Gregg Allman on Hammond B3, Duane Allman and Dickey Betts on guitars, through the mid ‘70s after Duane and Bassist Barry Oakley died. Adding Chuck Leavell on piano, and continuing to the later day lineup with Warren Haynes and drummer Butch Trucks' nephew Derek Trucks on guitars until their final shows in 2014.. Schroomville represents all of the Allman Brothers music. Twin lead guitars, Hammond B3 organ, soulful vocals, and bass and drums pumping the groove is what Schroomville is all about as we do our level best to recreate the sound and experience of the Allman Brothers Band. Come check out Schroomville live and you too can be an official Schroomer! After all....
